The ’80s are known as the Decade of electronic music. At the time, New Wave and Synthpop become one of the most popular musical genres, as well as the entire structure of Dance Music, New Wave and Synthpop were developed by many British and American artists, and have become popular phenomena throughout the decade, becoming practically a symbol of the time. Successful bands at the time were Alphaville, Depeche Mode, A-ha, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, and the Pet Shop Boys. Michael Jackson was definitely the biggest icon of the ’80s. His famous 1982 album, Thriller, has become the most commercialized of all time, with estimated sales between 65 and 110 million copies worldwide. Other numerous rock and pop bands emerged in the ’80s: A-ha, U2, The Police, Duran Duran. Some, which emerged in the mid-’70s, were only consolidated in the decade of 80.
